How to Listen to Podcasts
If you are new to podcasts, then follow along with this easy step-by-step tutorial.
Step 1: Download a free podcast player on your mobile device
There are several free podcast players available, whether you use Android or iOS. Additionally, there are paid podcast players with more bells and whistles, but if you’re just starting out then a free player works just fine.
- Apple Podcasts is one of the most popular podcast players out there.
- For you Android users, then Google Podcasts is a great choice!
- Spotify meets the needs of both Android and Apple product users
- And Stitcher for Podcasts is another player that supports Android and Apple, you can access both here.
Step 2: Open the podcast player and find a podcast
This will be sightly different on all podcast players, but the premise is the same. You can either search for a specific podcast title or browse topics.
Use the search feature and type in a specific podcast name such as Straight A Nursing, Office Ladies or Crime Junkie (you can see what my favorites are!).
Or, simply browse through popular topics and shows to find things you might like. There’s a whole wide world of podcasts out there and it can be a little bit exhilarating to see all the options.
Here’s what you see when you open Apple Podcasts. Notice the search button on the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Browse through a list of episodes for a particular show
Each podcast show will have a list of episodes available to listen to. Simply scroll through the list until you find something that intrigues you. The image below shows what my podcast episodes look like on Apple Podcasts.
Step 4: Listen!
When you click on the episode you want to listen to, it will open and start playing. Easy!
Step 5: Subscribe
When you find a podcast you really enjoy, simply hit the subscribe or follow button so that you always get the latest episodes downloaded and waiting for you.
